CCR Question 4

How did your research inform your products and the way they use or challenge conventions?

In our project, we had thorough research, where we went through numerous sites and it inspired us in using conventions. To start off, for our Social media page, we researched different artists that followed a format that 9 posts make up one picture. We cropped a picture into 9 equal individual images and posted them one by one. We used references from the account ‘sweetener’, ‘Blackpink’ and ‘Taylor Swift’. All these accounts are well recognised and create a better visual for audiences. Through this, we created an eye-catching social media page that engages with audiences and keeps them guessing about what’s to come next.

Research for our digipak wasn’t as specific. This helped us in branding quite a lot so we wanted an idea that was original and unique. We researched the basic formats and layouts of various digipaks and through that, we decided on a proper layout. In this, we incorporated a colour palette and made sure that the digipak matched well together and was eye-catching for audiences. We also researched quite a bit on the colour palette as not only did the colours match but also each of the three colours was associated with similar and linking themes and emotions.

In addition to this, there were a few references in our music video to other existing ones. In other words, intertextuality. We were inspired by "Castle on the Hill" by Ed Sheeran and "Faded" by Alan Walker, which further assisted us to envision different ways to create the most optimum shots and helped to decide on locations for the music video.
